Description

Meeting the demands of a growing population and expanding trade networks, the Canadian Pacific D10 Locomotive (No. 926) stands as a prime example of the versatile and reliable "Ten Wheeler" class engines. These workhorse locomotives played a critical role in Canadian Pacific’s operations from 1905 through the end of World War II.

The Toronto holds the distinction of being the first steam locomotive constructed on Canadian soil—and likely the first built anywhere in the British Empire outside of the UK. For nearly six decades, Canadian Pacific’s powerful D-10 4-6-0 engines were the backbone of freight transportation across the country. At their peak, D-10s accounted for over one in every seven locomotives in service, before being gradually phased out between 1938 and 1960.
