The first International Storytelling Festival was held in 1988. People came from everywhere. Over the years, the stories have spanned four continents and 23 languages. Storytellers from as far as Iceland, Zimbabwe, Japan Europe and Australia have come to Canada to share the world’s rich storytelling heritage under a midnight sun. In an outdoor wonderland of auditorium-sized, legend-filled tents, stories take on the form of mime, music and dance. Spectacular costumes are a feast for the eyes and the infectious rhythm of drums sends passive feet tapping and of course, there are the storytellers, captivating audiences with their imagination, eloquence, humour and drama – epic tales that will echo throughout the ages.
