Description
- 2006 BUTTERFLY COLLECTION – SILVERY BLUE
This sixth coin in our popular Butterfly series is a beautiful hologram of a Silvery Blue Butterfly. There are about a dozen subspecies of Silvery Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus) but only one of them is found in Canada—subspecies couperi. It can be seen in every province and territory as far north as Tuktoyaktuk (Northwest Territories) but is rarely seen in southwestern Ontario. A single generation of Silvery Blue flies each season; from early May to early July in the south and from mid-June to mid-August in Newfoundland and the north.
With its stunning shiny blue wings, the Silvery Blue will turn anyone into a butterfly enthusiast. The edges of the wings feature a dark grey border which is usually wider in the females and often infuses the entire surface of the wing with grey. The underside is grey throughout, with a single row of round spots that are black with white rims. Add this beautiful Silvery Blue Butterfly Coin today to your collection.
