Description

Glenveagh National Park and Castle, County Donegal – Ireland

In 2006, the Irish government adopted a unified national design for all its euro coin denominations. Each coin features a stylized Celtic harp, a long-standing emblem of Irish heritage. This harp, crafted by designer Jarlath Hayes, appears alongside the word "Éire" (Ireland in Irish) and the minting year. The €2 coin is further distinguished by edge lettering: the number "2**" is engraved six times, alternating between upright and inverted positions.

The complete euro coin series includes eight denominations: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cent, plus €1 and €2. Each coin has two sides: the national side, which identifies the issuing country, and the common side, which was designed by Luc Luycx of the Royal Belgian Mint. These shared designs depict Europe or the European Union, symbolizing unity and cooperation across member states. Notably, the 1, 2, and 5 cent coins present Europe in a global context, showing its location relative to Africa and Asia.

Euro coins are legal tender across all eurozone countries, making them universally usable within the region.
