Description:
The reverse features an original work by renowned Canadian artist Carlito Dalceggio entitled “Harmony.” A nonlinear myth-scape refracted through Dalceggio’s powerful intuitive artistry, this design incorporates the artist’s recurrent exploration of the transcendent nature of the act of painting as part of a quest for universal patterns and a journey into an inner “labyrinth of dreams and visions” to which the painting becomes a point of entry. In this work as in others, Dalceggio’s creative subjects include the elements of modern life, a pantheon of global mythologies and his considerable skill for poetic deconstruction.

Harmony by Carlito Dalceggio
“My art is imaginary propaganda for an unknown kingdom…”
Born in Quebec in 1971, Carlito Dalceggio knew from an early age that he would lead a unique path in life. In tandem with studies in graphic design at the Université du Québec à Montréal, he began to work seriously as an artist from his late teens. His artistic education extended to global travel in a quest to absorb syntax from the art traditions of other cultures, including those of certain countries in Africa (Mauritania, Morocco), Asia (Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, India), Turkey, Mexico and Brazil. Throughout his career, he has partnered with artists from around the world, establishing and participating in art collectives and working in virtually every medium, from fine arts, fashion and circus arts to photography, literature and film. In addition to showcasing his work at exhibits and in live art installations, Dalceggio has also been commissioned to create large-scale pieces for a number of public, private and corporate patrons.

On Harmony
This design is how I envision and depict my roots, my country, and its relations with a higher level of consciousness. By treating tribal symbols in a contemporary way, I blend the ancestors and the future. This is a circular narrative composition with no starting point: the image can be approached from any side. Curves and linear elements intermingle to create a dynamic fountain of life. This piece represents the fusion and harmony of humanity and nature, essential elements defining Canada, and the importance that these linkages continue to grow in the future. It is a message of universal peace, of harmony and union. The coin design represents the alliance between nature and humanity and is a reminder of cycles and time: what is contemporary now will be ancient someday
