Description

DESCRIPTION

It was the first metal used by man, with simple ornaments among the earliest known metal objects. King Midas, Jason and the Argonauts, and King Solomon were all seekers of this treasured metal – a central theme in many myths and legends.

The purity of gold is expressed in carats with 24-carat gold (99.9% or higher) being the most pure. An alternative method of expressing purity is fineness, which defines the purity of gold in parts per 1,000.

One of the most valued elements, gold, symbolises perfection in all matters. This precious metal is thought to represent the qualities of vitality, radiance, wisdom, virtue and clarity.

Significant deposits of gold have been found in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, with Australia being one of the world’s most notable producers. Gold is, and has always been, a very important metal, with its rarity and unique properties making it one of the world’s most prized.

Struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, this stunning coin features a minimum of 0.2g of loose gold encased in a transparent locket.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 7,500 2014 Treasures of the World – Australia 1oz Silver Proof Coins containing loose gold and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

This coin incorporate a transparent circular locket containing loose gold granules. The locket in each coin is surrounded by a reverse design representing an outback Australian scene, featuring a kangaroo, Grass trees and Spinifex plants. The design also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the inscriptions TREASURES OF THE WORLD and GOLD.
