Happiness is one of China’s great blessings symbolized by numerous animals and plants. One of the most potent symbols is the magpie (xi que). Its name translates directly to - the bird of happiness.- Two magpies are often depicted together at weddings to express a wish for "double happiness."
The lotus flower is another visual and auditory symbol for happiness. The pronunciation of its name (lian) sounds identical to the word "continuous." Hence, the use of lotus flowers in design represents prolonged happiness, luck and success.
