In 2021, the Louis XIV 30-deniers coin’s “mousquetaire” cross was made new again, thanks to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Relics of New France pure gold collectible. This time, the French coin’s obverse has been given a place of honour on this modern-day tribute. Its design carries a historical significance: it features the monogram of the long-reigning King Louis XIV. To complete the experience, each 5 oz. fine silver coin comes with a genuine piece of history: an original 30-deniers coin, struck between 1709 and 1713 at the Lyon and Metz mints in a billon alloy of 20% silver and 80% copper.
