SPECIAL FEATURES:
- CLASSIC CANADIANA, RE-IMAGINED: The SECOND in a three-coin series featuring a new spin on traditional wildlife portraits: Canadian icons re-interpreted as mosaic art.
- NEW COLOUR TECHNOLOGY: MOSAIC COLOUR re-creates the multi-coloured appearance of tile mosaic—one that fits in the palm of your hand!
- OUTSTANDING ATTENTION TO DETAIL: Complex engraving divides the larger image into segments that resemble pieces of coloured tile that come together to form the image of a grizzly bear standing at the edge of a salmon-rich river.
- LIKE FILTERED LIGHT: To achieve the look of light filtering through coloured tile, each colour on the reverse has a varying degree of translucence — from dark, opaque colours to glassy hues.
DESIGN:
The reverse image by Jori van der Linde features a side-profile view of a grizzly bear at the edge of a salmon-rich river, all re-imagined in the style of mosaic art. Just like real mosaic tile art, the larger image is formed by different-sized “segments” that are defined by engraved lines and clad in luminous colours—save for the silver proof shine of the rocks that have been “polished” by the fast-moving water. Mosaic Colour technology mimics the appearance of light filtering through each coloured piece as the eye moves from the water’s glassy hues to the more vibrant colours of the spawning salmon, and the opaque colours of the grizzly bear’s fur. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
